Biography

A five-time Olympian, consecutively from 1996-2012, Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie was a sprinter who won three Olympics medals, helping the Bahamas win gold in the 4x100 in 2000, adding silver in that event in 1996, and a bronze in the 2004 200 metres. Ferguson-McKenzie made the final of the 100 and 200 metres at three consecutive Olympics – 2000-08.

At the World Championships Ferguson-McKenzie won the 2001 200 metres, and helped Jamaica win gold in the 1999 4x100 relay. She also took bronze in the 200 at the 2009 Worlds, and won a silver that year in the 4x100. At the 2002 Commonwealth Games Ferguson-McKenzie won the sprint triple, taking 100, 200, and 4x100 gold medals. She was 1999 Pan American Games champion at 200 metres, and won eight medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games between 1993-2013, including four gold medals – 1997 100 metres, 1997 and 2003 4x100 relay, and the 2008 200 metres.

She ran in college in the United States for the University of Georgia, and was 1998 NCAA Champion in both the 100 and 200 metres. Ferguson-McKenzie later became a coach, starting at the University of Houston and later moving to the University of Kentucky.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.91 (2002); 200 – 22.19 (1999).
