Biography

Bill Lienhard played on the great Kansas team which won the 1952 NCAA championship, but really played very little basketball after college. He played in Helsinki on the 1952 gold medalists, but after returning from Europe joined up with the Air Force and played two years of service basketball. He retired from competitive basketball after that, spurning a chance to play AAU ball. After leaving the Air Force he became a very successful banker in Kansas. Lienhard is a member of the Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame and the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.
