Biography

Márcio de Oliveira was a Brazilian track and field athlete who specialised in the long jump. In 1935 De Oliveira won his first medal in the event at the South American championships when he finished second. Two years later he went one better, winning the gold medal as well as setting a championship record in the process. At the 1939 championships he won gold in both the long jump and the 4 x 100 metres, before winning another relay gold in 1941. De Oliveira finished 15th in the long jump at the 1936 Berlin Olympics with a best effort of 7.05 metres. The following year he won bronze in the long jump at the Pan-American Exposition in Dallas, which was an early precursor to the Pan American Games.
