Biography

Born in London, England in 1906 Henry Cieman later moved to Canada where he became one of the best competitive racewalkers during the 1930s. Cieman won multiple races in North America during his career including the US 50 km title on three occasions (1930, 1934, 1935). In 1931 he won the 31-mile walking race in New Jersey from Atlantic City to Egg Harbor, completing the course in 5-24:10. The following year he competed in the 50 km event at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics but failed to complete the course. In 1935 Cieman won the 1,500 metres walking title at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Madison Square Garden.
