Biography

Jaime Camps served in the Spanish Army for almost ten years after joining the Infantry Academy of Toledo in 1912. By June 1915 Camps had reached the rank of second lieutenant and was assigned to the Regiment of Burgos Infantry in León where he remained until June 1919. During this time he began training as an athlete and reached the qualification required to compete for Spain at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics. Camps ran in the 100 metres but finished in fifth place in his heat and did not advance to the quarter-finals. He was also scheduled to run in the 4 × 100 metres relay but did not compete in the race after the Spanish squad was eliminated in the first round.

After the Antwerpen Olympics Camps returned to San Sebastián where he joined the Regiment of Infantry San Fernando along with one of his brothers. In early August 1921 he was fighting in the Rif War where he was killed in the Battle of Annual in northeastern Morocco. Camps was 25-years-old.
