Biography

Tapio Lehto was a triple jumper who competed at the 1956 Olympic Games, finishing 18th. Lehto did not qualify for the final at the 1954 European Championships. He was Finnish Champion in the triple jump from 1954-56.

Lehto was better known in Finland for another sport, golf. He became a golf professional at Nurmijärvi Golf Center (Nurmijärvi Golfkeskus Oy) and a renowned teacher in Finnish golf circles. He trained the players for the Finnish national teams and is said to have created the basis for the Finnish philosophy of golf education, through training and teaching, on which others have built.
