Biography

Finnish track and field athlete Toivo Sariola was a talented sprinter and hurdler who represented Keravan Urheilijat in Kerava. In 1935 Sariola won silver in the 100 metres at the national championships, earning him a place on the Finnish Olympic team. At the 1936 Berlin Games he ran in both the 100 metres and the 4 x 100 metres relay but did not advance from the heats in either race. In 1938 he won his second medal at the national championships when he once again finished second in the 100 metres. Sariola also played pesäpallo, the Finnish version of baseball, and took part in multiple editions of the traditional East-West match.
