Biography

Börje Strandvall was a Finnish track and field athlete who specialised as a sprinter. Strandvall won his first national title with gold in the 400 metres in 1931. This performance earned him a place on the Finnish athletics team for the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics where he reached the semi-finals of the 400 metres. The following year he dominated the sprint events at the national championships, winning gold in the 100, 200, and 400 metres. Strandvall did the 100 and 200 metres double in 1934 at the Finnish championships, which was followed by running in the 400 metres at the European Athletics Championships in Torino. He ran in the 200 and 400 metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals in both races. Strandvall’s niece Mona-Lisa Strandvall-Pursiainen was a champion sprinter in the 1970s and his cousin Bebbe Storskrubb competed at the 1948 London Olympics.

Personal Bests: 200 – 21.8 (1933); 400 – 48.1 (1933).
