Biography

Finnish all-round track and field athlete Iivari Yrjölä represented Tampereen Pyrintö in Tampere. Yrjölä competed in both the pentathlon and the decathlon at the 1924 Paris Olympics but failed to finish in both events. After a promising start in the pentathlon, including finishing third in the javelin, he failed to start in his heat for the 200 metres. Yrjölä had more bad luck in the decathlon after being disqualified in the 110 metres hurdles. His brother Paavo won gold in the decathlon at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics.
