Biography

John (or Jean) Pollet was a pioneering figure in Swiss basketball, having played with the Genève Basket-Ball Club in the mid-1930s where he served as the team captain. He made several national team appearances, including on the 1935 European Championships team, as well as at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where the Swiss team finished with a record of 2-1.

Switching teams to Urania-Genève Sport by the 1940s, he was once again chosen for the European Championships team in 1946, and then for the Olympics in 1948. In London, Pollet was one of the older members on the team at 36-years-old, and played in all seven games, recording 15 points. The Swiss team eventually finished in 21st place, recording only one win. He took to coaching after his retirement and was made an honorary member of the Swiss Basketball Federation in 1968.
