Scottish track and field athlete Brad McStravick was an excellent all-round competitor who specialised in the decathlon. During his career McStravick set the Scottish record in the event on five occasions. From 1977 to 1982 he won five medals, including two golds, at the AAA Championships, the de facto British national championships. At the 1980 Moskva Olympics he finished 15th, with his best individual result coming in the 100 metres where he ran the second-best time. Four years later he returned to the Olympics for the 1984 LA Games where he improved on his previous performance to finish 11th. McStravick also competed in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games in 1982 and 1986, finishing fourth at the latter. Tragically, he was killed in a road accident in August 2024 when he was out cycling in Yorkshire.
Personal Best: Dec – 7922w (1984).
