Biography

After placing third in the 880y at the 1923 AAA Championships, Sonny Spencer finished fourth in 1924 and 1925. At the 1923 English AAA Championships he beat Douglas Lowe for the 880y title and was again the English champion in 1925. In 1924 he was a finalist in the Olympic 1500 and in 1925 he placed second in the Kinnaird mile. Serving as an aircrew sergeant with the RAF in World War II, he was killed when a Short Sunderland 3 crashed on a night training flight in the Scottish highlands.

Personal Bests: 880y – 1:58.0 (1926); 1500 – 4:03.7 (1924); Mile – 4:29.2e (1925).
