Arthur Willis

Arthur Willis represented Cambridge in the high jump three times and, unusually, he was awarded his second blue 11 years after he first competed against Oxford. After going up to Cambridge in 1913 he competed in the University Sports the following year. He served in the RNVR during the early part of the war, including action in Gallipoli, but in 1916 he took a regular commission in the Royal Garrison Artillery. Resigning his commission in 1924, he returned to Emmanuel College, Cambridge and was third in the high jump against Oxford in 1925 and the winner in 1926. He was, at the time, 32-years-old and had already competed in the Olympics, won the Irish title (1922), placed second in the AAA Championships 91924), and won the Army high jump title four times (1921-24). After eventually graduating from Cambridge, he became headmaster of a preparatory school in Eastbourne.
