Biography

Long jumper and pentathlete Bärbel Löhnert reached the final of the long jump at the 1968 Mexico Olympics and finished 14th. At the 1962 Europeans she placed eighth and at the 1967 European Cup was an unfortunate fourth. Löhnert won a silver medal at the 1968 European Indoors. She won national titles outdoors in the long jump in 1968-69, and indoors in 1964, and 1967-68. In 1967 and 1968 she was also East German pentathlon champion. Löhnert was educated as a sports teacher. Her son Timo became a pro footballer in the second German league for Carl-Zeiss Jena.

Personal Best: LJ – 6.53 (1968).
