Biography

Bill Robinson excelled at basketball in high school and took his talents to British Columbia’s Simon Fraser University, where he played from 1970 through 1974. In both his first and last years, he was selected to represent Canada at the World Championships, where the nation placed tenth and eighth respectively. He fared better at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where Canada survived until the bronze medal match, only to be defeated by the Soviet Union 100-72. He later studied at the University of Waterloo, helping them win a collegiate championship in 1976, and missed out on several opportunities to play basketball in the United States, although he did manage an international professional career in Europe and Mexico. He was inducted into the Simon Fraser University Sports, Canadian Basketball, Basketball BC, and North Cowichan/Duncan Sports Halls of Fame in 1986, 2002, 2005, and 2009, respectively.
