Biography

Beckert was among the best East German marathon runners after World War II, winning the East German Championship in 1958. His best international performance was at the 1956 Finnish Championships in Pieksämäki where he placed fourth with 2-21:44.8. In 1958 Beckert became East German Champion in the marathon. In his two Olympic appearances he placed 19th (1956) and 56th (1960).

Personal Best: Mar – 2-21:44.8 (1956).
