Biography

Javelin thrower Walter Krüger had his greatest moment at the 1960 Roma Olympics, winning the javelin silver medal, and he also won the East German Championship that year. He finished fourth at the 1959 Universiade and competed in 11 internationals from 1957-71.

Krüger was educated as a farmer but later worked as a sports teacher and coach. Until 1990 he was honorary deputy mayor in the village of Groß-Mohrendorf in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
