Biography

Middle distance runner Roswitha Gerdes placed fourth in the 1,500 metres at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, placing sixth that year at the European Indoors. Domestically she won three titles with the non-Olympic relay 3x800 metres – 1981, 1984, and 1988. In 1984 she was runner-up at the German Championships, and 1988 became German Champion in cross-country. She was educated as a medical specialist for orthopaedics, chiropractic, and sports medicine. Together with her husband she led the “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Freizeitmedizin” (German Association for Leisure Medicine), and they raised three children.

Personal Best: 1500 – 4:04.41 (1984).
