Biography

High jumper Renate Gärtner placed 14th at her home Olympics in 1972 at München using the straddle style. She took part in the 1971 European Championships (6th), the 1973 European Cup, and the 1970 European Indoors (13th), and was German Champion in 1969 and 1971. She later remained active as a senior athlete and became European Champion in 2000 and placed fourth at the World Championships in 2001. She was educated as a teacher for sports and geography, and taught at a gymnasium in Schlüchtern.

Personal Best: HJ – 1.84 (1973).
