A lance corporal in the King’s Own Regiment, Stan Eastham won three England Amateur caps in the 1936 home international championship and shortly afterwards gained selection for the British team at the Berlin Olympics, but he never played. Still in the Army, he signed amateur firms for Liverpool in December 1936. An inside-forward or wing-half, he toured Australia, New Zealand and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) with the England Amateur team in 1937 and in May the following year, having left the Army, he signed his first professional contract with Liverpool. However, due to the war, all his first-team football for the Reds was in wartime matches. After the war he joined Exeter City but never made a first-team appearance before a move in the summer of 1946 to Stockport County but after 14 League games he set off to play his football in Australia, firstly with the Corinthian Club in Brisbane and later with Perth City.
