Brigitte Kraus

Middle distance runner Brigitte Kraus was eliminated in the semifinals at the 1976 Montréal Olympics in the 1,500 and withdrew during the 3,000 final at the 1984 Los Angeles Games. Her biggest moment came at the 1983 World Championships, winning the 3,000 metre silver medal. She participated in several other international events: 1978, 1982 and 1986 Europeans; European Cups in 1975, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1985 and 1987; and 1987 World Indoors. At the European Indoors Kraus won gold medals in the 1,500 in 1976 and 1983; in the 3,000 in 1984; adding silver medals in the 1,500 in 1982; and bronze medals in the 1,500 in 1978, 1985 and 1988, and the 3,000 in 1987. She won 28 national outdoor and 15 indoor titles over different distances.

Kraus was educated as a technical draftsman, but lost her job after the 1984 Olympics. Almost one year later she was employed by her home club ASV Köln as a receptionist. She married middle-distance runner and non-Olympian Roland Jaroschek, who then took her name as his family name. Their son Patrick became a football (soccer) player.
