Biography

Middle-distance runner Vera Michallek married her teammate Andreas Martin Michallek in 1981, who then became her coach. Vera was educated as an industrial merchant. Both later owned a sports agency managing several German track and field athletes such as Robert Harting, Verena Sailer, Betty Heidler and others.

Michallek competed in the 1988 Seoul Olympics in the 1,500 and 3,000 metres, but did not reach the finals. She also competed at the 1983 and 1987 World Championships with a best finish of 11th in the 1987 3,000 metres. At the 1986 Europeans she finished 10th in the 3,000 and was eliminated in the heats of the 1,500. Her greatest moment came at the 1988 European Indoors, winning a silver medal in the 3K. She also had several fourth places, at the 1988 World Indoors, and at the 1982, 1983 and 1987 European Indoors. Domestically Michallek won 13 West German titles with the 3x800 relay (3), 1,500 (2), 3,000 (1), 25 km (1), cross-country (1), 1,500 indoor (3), 3,000 indoor (2).

Personal Bests: 1500 – 4:04.29 (1986); 3000 – 8:46.97i (1988).
