Biography

Iris Plotzitzka, a shot putter and occasionally discus thrower, failed to qualify for the shot put final at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. She came in twelfth at the 1987 Worlds, and seventh at the 1986 Europeans. Indoor she placed eighth at the 1987 Worlds, fourth at the 1987 Europeans, and fifth at the 1990 Europeans. Her greatest moment came at the 1989 European Indoors, winning the bronze medal. Domestically Plotzitzka won the 1990 West German indoor title. She herself explained her increased performance between 1985 and 1986 due to doping practices taught to her by her coach Christian Gehrmann.

Personal Best: SP – 20.53 (1988).
