Herbert Böcher was a graduate as a sports teacher, who coached Chinese athletes at the University of Mukden (1929-32), and in 1933 became a sports journalist. He won the 1926 and 1927 national championships in the 800 meters, in 1928-29 in the 4 x 400 relay, and in 1927-29 in the 4 x 1500 relay. Additionally he was part of the world record relay team in the 4 x 800 in 1927 (8:01.0). At Amsterdam in 1928 Böcher had to withdraw from the 1,500 final due to an injury.
