Steeplechaser Heinz-Gerd Mölders was eliminated in the heats of the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. In 1969 he was nominated for the 1969 European Championships but due to a West German boycott he did not start. Mölders was later European steeplechase champion in 1984 (M40) and 1988 (M45) in senior classes, but never claimed a West German national title.
