Biography

Walter Schönrock was the brother-in-law of teammates Max Syring and Karl-Heinz Becker, all three of whom married one of the three Zätzsch sisters. He was also the grandfather of butterfly swimmer Sybille Schönrock, who won a silver medal at the 1980 Moskva Games. Walter himself came in 21st in the 10K at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In 1937, he was German Champion in the 10K and with the 4x1500 m relay, placing second in the 10K in 1938.
