Biography

Ferenc Gerő started his career as a footballer with KAOE, but after seeing his speed, he moved onto the track. In the 1920s, Gerő won 16 Hungarian championships, competing for Hungary between 1923-1930. He was a member of the 4x100 relay that placed fourth at the 1924 Paris Olympics. After a long break, he successfully returned to competing in 1928 and reached his best time of 10.5 and competed at the 1928 Olympics. In 1928, Gerő moved to MTK, but he retired in 1930 due to injuries.

Gerő was a professional tanner. After World War II, he helped with the rebuilding of the Hungarian Athletic Association, and worked as a judge at athletic competitions for decades. He died of a heart attack at age 74.
