Biography

As an athlete of MTK, József Marton achieved his first championship title in 1926, when he won the national youth cross country championships. In 1927 he was a member of the victorious 4X1500 m relay in the national championship. The following year, he won the national championship in the 1,500m, with a national record (4.03.2 p). In the same year, he took part in the Amsterdam Olympics, though he was eliminated in the preliminaries of the 1500m. In the following year he wanted to transfer to Törekvés, but the two clubs could not agree, so Marton ended his sports career. Marton’s civic occupation was as a coppersmith. He worked at the Kőbánya Brewery. In 1974 he was the victim of a traffic accident.
