Gary Ryan

Gary Ryan ran for Ireland at two Olympics as a sprinter. At the Irish nationals, he won the 100 metres five times (1999-2000, 2002-03, 2005) and the 200 four times (1996-99). He also won the Irish 200 m indoor title seven times (1994, 1996-98, 2003-03, 2005), and won five Scottish national championships, the outdoor 200 in 1997, and four indoor 200 crowns – 1997-98, and 2002-03. Ryan won 14 sprint titles at the Irish Universities Athletics Association Championships, and added seven victories in relay events. Internationally, his biggest achievement was winning a bronze medal with the Irish 4x400 relay team at the 2004 World Indoors.

Ryan retired from competitive athletics in 2006 to devote his total attention to his job as Director of Development with Athletics Ireland. The following year Gary was appointed Director of Coaching with Athletics Ireland, and in February 2009 he took up his new job as Elite Sports Development Officer at NUI Galway.
