Biography

Amelia Piccinini was a good all-around athlete who did the pentathlon before it was contested internationally, winning the 1937 Italian pentathlon title. She competed at the European Championships in 1938, 1946, and 1950, placing ninth in the shot put in 1938. In 1946 she won bronze in the shot put, and placed fourth in the long jump, while she finished seventh in the shot at the 1950 Europeans.

Piccini earned 28 caps and set 15 Italian records. In January 2015 Torino named a square in the historic center in her honor with the inscription Piazzale Amelia Piccinini – 1917-1949 – Argento Olimpico – Lancio del Peso Londra 1948.
