Biography

Cy Strulovitch’s original passion was baseball, and he was proficient enough to be drafted as a pitcher with the minor league Montreal Royals. Although he continued to play this sport into the 1950s, he had to take a break from it in order to represent Canada in basketball at the 1948 London Olympics. There, the team won three of their five matches in the preliminary round, which was not sufficient to advance them to the quarterfinals. Instead, they won classification matches against Iran, Belgium, and Peru to finish ninth overall; Strulovitch played in five matches. Following his retirement from active competition, he was involved in coaching both sports at the YMHA.
