Biography

Franco Boffi was a former Italian former middle-distance runner who competed for Pro Patria. He became a steeplechaser, in which he qualified for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Boffi ran his first steeplechase in mid-June 1984 in Milano in 8:40.1 and, a few days later in Udine, improved his personal best by 4 seconds. In July, in the cool climate of Helsinki, he improved again (8:27.66) and on 10 July he won his first and only Italian championship, in Roma, clearly beating (8:35.51) Luciano Carchesio and Gabriele Bettati.

At the Olympic Games, Boffi made it out of the heats but did not qualify for the final. His biggest international victory was at the 1985 Universiade, taking the steeplechase in 8:28.75. Boffi earned 33 international caps from 1981-91. Boffi also ran cross-country, competing in six World Championships, from 1983-91, with his best finish coming at Lisbon in 1985, where he placed 23rd. He raced several times at the Cinque Mulini, an annual cross-country race in San Vittore Olona, Italy, finishing fifth in 1988.

Personal Best: 3000S – 8:21.69 (1987).
