Biography

Sophia Hunter first ran internationally for Jamaica, competing for that nation in the 100 hurdles at the 1984 Olympics. She later switched allegiance to the United States while a student at Delaware State College. Hunter ran for the USA at the 1986 Universiade and the 1987 World Championships. During her collegiate career she set or shared 18 school records and made the finals of the 100 hurdles at the NCAA Championships from 1984-86, placing 7th, 4th, and 6th, respectively. Hunter had one podium finish at the USA National Championships, placing third in the high hurdles in 1987, after finishing 6th in 1986. She was US ranked #4 for the 1987 season by Track & Field News. Hunter also ran the 400 hurdles occasionally, placing fifth at the 1987 US Championships.

Personal Bests: 100H – 12.96 (1987); 400H – 55.40 (1987).
