Biography

Elena Pampulova-Wagner was a Bulgarian tennis player who played professionally from 1988 to 2001. Pampulova-Wagner achieved a career-best singles ranking of #62 in the world in September 1996, and a doubles ranking of #38 in the world also in September 1996. She played on Bulgaria’s Fed Cup team from 1988 to 1992 before playing for Germany’s team from 1997 to 1999.

Pampulova-Wagner won 12 singles titles on the ITF Circuit with her first coming in October 1988 in Baden, Switzerland against Katarzyna Nowak. She also won eight ITF doubles titles between April 1989 and August 1997. Pampulova-Wagner won her one and only WTA singles title in November 1994 in Surabaya, Indonesia, after Ai Sugiyama was forced to retire midway through the match. As well as he solitary singles title she also won three WTA doubles titles.

At Grand Slams Pampulova-Wagner reached the singles third round at the US Open (1997) and Wimbledon (1999). She also reached the doubles third round three times at the French Open (1990, 1996, 1999). Pampulova-Wagner competed in the singles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics but lost in the first round to Mana Endo.
