Biography

Nils Dahl was a leading Norwegian mid- and long-distance runner in the period 1907-1914, winning six Norwegian titles, four silver medals, and one bronze medal over 800, 1,500, 5,000, and cross-country during those years. In 1909 he lowered the national record for 5000 m to 16:08.6. In his Olympic appearances in 1908 and 1912 he was less successful, failing to qualify for the 1,500 final in 1908 and not finishing the cross-country race in 1912.

A procurator by profession, Dahl was also an active sport administrator, serving as president of the Norwegian Athletic Association from 1929-32. He also played an important role in introducing the sport of orienteering in Norway, as one of the organizers for the first orienteering competition in Norway in 1925.

Personal Best: 1500 – 4:19.5 (1910).
