Romanian sportsman Bondoc Ionescu-Crum started off as a successful track and field athlete before moving into football as both a player and a manager. In 1934 at an inter-school championship Ionescu-Crum won five races and set a national record in the long jump with 7.03 metres. He continued to have good form in the long jump, becoming both the national champion and the gold medallist at the Balkan Games in 1936. This earned him a place at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but he did not advance past the qualifying round.
As a footballer Ionescu-Crum played as a defender for Sportul Studențesc București and Venus București, winning the Divizia A title with Venus București in 1938–39. During World War II he fought for the Romanian Armed Forces and was awarded with the Commemorative Cross in 1955. After the war Ionescu-Crum returned to football, this time in the capacity as a manager, coaching Universitatea Craiova during the 1957–58 season. He was later named an honorary citizen of Brașov and had a street in the city named after him.
