Max Beer was a Swiss long-distance runner who competed in the marathon. Beer founded a sports and athletics club in Mettendorf where members would participate in cross-country runs. In 1934 he then founded the Frauenfelder Militärwettmarsch (Frauenfeld Military March), with competitors taking part in military uniforms over the full marathon distance. Beer won the event twice and was the Swiss marathon champion, earning him a spot at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he finished 34th. After his athletics career he studied at the University of Bern where he passed his bar exam.
