Biography

Middle and long-distance runner Bengt Nåjde won multiple Swedish titles in the 5,000 metres, the 10,000 metres, and cross-country races during the 1960s and 1970. Nåjde won his first medal at the Swedish championships in 1963 with a silver in the 5,000 metres. In the same event he went on to win gold in 1970 and 1972, another silver in 1968, and bronze in 1971. In the 10,000 metres he won back-to-back national titles in 1971 and 1972 along with four silver medals (1969–70, 1973, 1975).

In cross-country races Nåjde won an individual gold in the 12km in 1971, a team gold in the 12km in 1965, and another team gold in the 4km in 1974. He won a team silver in 1964, an individual silver in 1974, and an individual bronze in 1965. Nåjde held the Swedish record in the 5,000 metres from 1965 to 1972, before briefly holding it again in 1973, and held the 10,000 metres record from 1970 to 1974. Nåjde ran in the 5,000 metres at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics but did not qualify from his heat. He was also scheduled to run in the 10,000 metres in Tokyo but did not start the race.
