Biography

The 18-year-old Nataliya Bochina won silver medals in the 200 metres and 4×100 relay at the 1980 Olympics. Her 200 silver medal time of 22.19 stood as a world junior record until 2003, when 17-year-old Allyson Felix ran 22.11 in the rarified air of Mexico City and, as of 2014, Bochina’s time is still the European Junior record and Russian national record. Bochina added silvers at the 1981 European Indoors in the 400, the 1985 World Cup in the 4×100; and won bronzes at the 1986 Europeans, the 1981 World Cup, and the 1981 European Cup in the 4×100. Bochina was the 1981 Soviet Champion in the 100, 200, and 4×100 relay.
