Carlette Guidry-White

Carlette Guidry-White won gold medals in the 4x100 relays at both the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. She won another gold in the same event at the 1995 World Championships. Guidry-White ran the 200 at both her Olympics, and made the final in both events, but failed to medal. She first burst onto the international scene at the 1986 Pan American Junior Championships, when she won the 200, 4x100 and long jump. She also won a silver medal in the 60 metres at the 1995 World Indoor Championships.

Guidry-White competed for the University of Texas, graduating in 1991. She won 12 NCAA titles for the Longhorns and was named Southwest Conference Athlete of the Decade in indoor and outdoor track and field for the 1980s. She was also named Most Outstanding Student-Athlete in indoor track & field at the 25th anniversary of the NCAA Women’s Championships. In 1991 she won the Honda-Broderick Award as the top female track & field athlete in college, and in 1992 she was named the Babe Zaharias Award Winner as the nation’s top amateur athlete. Guidry-White later went into coaching and was inducted into the Texas Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014.
