Biography

Frank Covelli finished on the podium at the AAU in the javelin throw seven times between 1963-70, failing only in 1966, with two championships – 1964 and 1968. He was also NCAA javelin champion in 1963 after finishing fourth in 1962, while competing for Arizona State, from which he graduated in 1965 with a degree in electrical engineering. He later worked as an engineer for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft.

Covelli won the gold medal at the 1967 Pan American Games. He was world ranked in the top 10 four times - 1963, 1965, 1968-69 - with a best of #7 in 1963. He was ranked in the USA top 10 eight times between 1963-71 and was ranked #1 in 1963-65 and 1967. He also competed for the Pacific Coast Club.

Personal Best: JT – 86.76 (284-8) (1968).
