Biography

Olga Šikovec settled on track athletics as her sport of choice in 1953 and, between 1955 and 1965, captured 24 Yugoslavian titles between the 60, 100, and 200 metres. She was selected to represent Yugoslavia in the latter two events at the 1960 Rome Olympics, where she was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 100 and round one of the 200. In 1962, she was fourth in the 4x100 metres relay at the European Championships, but set a national record alongside Draga Stamejčič and the non-Olympians Nadja Simic and Zdenka Leskovac. At the same tournament, she was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 200 metres, which she had also done at the 1958 edition, in addition to being eliminated in the heats of the 100 metres that year.

Šikovec had her greatest success in the year of her retirement, 1966, when she took silver in the 4x160 metres relay at the European Indoor Games with Marijana Lubej and the non-Olympians Ljiljana Petnjarić and Jelisaveta Đanić. She later worked as an administrator, referee, and sports writer.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.7 (1961); 200 – 24.2 (1961).
