For ten years during the 1950s and 1960s Serbian track and field athlete Miloje Grujić was one of the best sprinters in Yugoslavia. Grujić won multiple medals at distances from 200 to 800 metres at the national and Balkan championships, in addition to setting ten Yugoslav records. In 1954 he did the 400 and 800 metres double at the Yugoslav championships, before winning four more 400 metres titles (1956–57, 1959–60) and the 200 metres title in 1960. From 1953 to 1963 he won twenty medals at the Balkan championships, including five golds in the 4 x 100 metres relay (1957, 1959–62), and an individual gold in the 400 metres in 1960. Grujić retired from athletics in 1964 and moved to South Africa, where he lived for the rest of his life.
