Biography

Robson Mulombe took up running as a schoolboy, but did not take the sport seriously until 1962. Two years later, however, he qualified to represent Rhodesia in the marathon at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics as one of the nation’s first black Olympians. At the Games, he placed 56th due to a cramp. He continued to run through 1974, although Rhodesia’s banishment from the Olympics prevented him from attending another edition of the Games. He took up coaching in 1979, but retired from that career after a short time and had difficulty finding work thereafter. Despite a sports academy in Binga being named in his honour, by 2022, he was living in poverty in rural Zimbabwe.

Personal Best: Mar – unknown.
