Biography

Olga Pall’s first major victory was a downhill win at Madonna di Campiglio in 1965, after which she made the Austrian National Team in 1966. The highlight of her career was her 1968 Olympic downhill gold medal. At her best in the power races, in the early years of the World Cup Pall won three downhills in 1968 and 1969, with five podiums, and won the 1968 seasonal downhill World Cup title. Pall competed at the 1970 World Championships, without distinction, and then retired at the end of the 1969-70 season.

After her competitive retirement, Pall trained as a physiotherapist and worked with the Austrian Olympic ski team at Lake Placid in 1980 and Sarajevo in 1984. From 1990-2002 she served as Vice-President of the Austrian Ski Federation and was later made Honorary President.

She married Ernst Scartezzini, who from 1986-2004 was President of the Tyrolean Ski Federation, and was also named an Honorary President of the Austrian Ski Federation in 2005. Pall was Austrian Sportswoman of the Year in 1968 and in 1996 was given a gold medal for her services to the Republic of Austria.
