Biography

Speed skater Evi Sappl finished 12th over 500 metres, and 17th over 1,000 metres at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympic Games. Only four weeks later at Inzell she skated faster than gold medal winner Lyudmila Titova. She won the West German national all-around title the same year. She married non-Olympian hockey player Walter Riedl and raised two children but also divorced. With her second husband she later moved to Graz in Austria.

Personal Bests: 500 – 45.2 (1968); 1000 – 1:35.7 (1968); 1500 – 2:31.1 (1968); 3000 – 5:43.1 (1968).
