Biography

Luger Eva-Maria Wernicke burst into the scene in 1973, winning a bronze medal at both the European and World Championships. In 1975 she added a European silver, and the following year finished an unfortunate fourth at the Innsbruck Winter Olympics behind her teammates Margit Schumann and Ute Rührold, and the West German Elisabeth Demleitner. Wernicke never won an East German national title. After her active career, she married the famous Nordic combined skier Ulrich Wehling, and they went to live in Switzerland after German reunification, where they raised their two daughters.
