Biography

Competing internationally for just a few years, Carl-Erik Asplund reached his peak at the 1952 Winter Games, where he won a bronze medal in the 10,000 m and placed fourth in the 1500 m. Primarily a long distance specialist, Asplund won distance medals in the 5,000 and 10,000 m at European and World Championships, but never medalled overall. His best result was a fourth place, at the 1951 European Championships, and he placed 6th at that year’s Worlds. Asplund did well in Swedish championships, where he won nine titles: 1500 m (1951-1953), 3000 m (1951-1952), 5000 m (1951-1952) and 10,000 m (1951, 1953). In 1953, Asplund won the discontinued Nordic championship, having finished second in 1951.

Personal Bests: 500 – 45.1 (1954); 1500 – 2:20.9 (1951); 5000 – 8:21.8 (1951); 10000 – 17:16.6 (1952).
