Biography

A member of the University of Toronto Graduates, the hockey team that won Canada the gold at the 1928 Winter Olympics, Frederick “Charlie” Delahey’s most prominent appearance in the sport came at these games. Prior to this, however, he had excelled at amateur hockey and Canadian Football and a year prior to his team’s Olympic gold, he had also claimed the Allan Cup with his team, given to the champions of the senior amateur men’s ice hockey competition. He followed up his Olympic win as a member of the Sarnia Imperials, who were the winners of the Ontario Rugby Football Union championship that same year. He continued in both of his passions after moving to Montreal, playing for the Quebec Amateur Hockey Association’s Royal Montreal Hockey Club and the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union’s Montreal AAA Winged Wheelers. A life-long athlete, after his retirement from these sports he stayed active in curling and golfing clubs around Toronto.
