Biography

Ted Donato played college hockey at Harvard, helping them win the NCAA Championship in 1989 when he was a sophomore. Donato had been selected 87th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1987 NHL entry draft. He joined the Bruins after the 1992 Winter Olympics, beginning a 13-year NHL career in which he played for nine teams, but mostly with the Bruins. Donato skated for Boston from 1991-97 and would finish his career with them in the 2003-04 season. In between, he played for the New York Islanders, Dallas Stars, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders, St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings, and New York Rangers. He played in 796 games, scoring 150 goals and 347 points. Donato also competed for the US at the 1997, 1999, and 2002 World Championships. During the strike season of 1994-95, he played for TuTo Turku in Finland, and he had a few brief forays down to the American Hockey League, playing for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Manchester Monarchs, Hartford Wolf Pack, and Providence Bruins. In 2004, after his NHL retirement, Donato became the head hockey coach at Harvard.
